10-Day 'Brunei Book Fair 2009' to be organised by The Language and Literature Bureau.
The 10-day fair from Feb 27 to March 8 will be held at the Indoor Stadium in Berakas. The organiser said the fair is expected to be launched by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awg Haji Ahmad.
It will coincide with the launch of more than 30 new books published by the Language and Literature Bureau.
The fair aims to give an opportunity to publishers to meet and interact with distributors, book lovers, librarians, and the general public under one roof and enhance appreciation for books. Second, the fair gives opportunities and convenience to the public to gain knowledge on various book titles in a comfortable and convenient place.
Third, to enhance trade cooperation and networking in planning strategies to develop the book publishing industry at regional and international levels. It also acts as a prime mover to promote the reading habit and enhance the mind through reading.
Other activities to be held at the fair include talks, workshops and dialogues. There will also be a colouring contest and quiz for the public.
The organiser said this year the response received for the fair is very encouraging. Some 109 booths have been booked. The fair will be participated by 58 companies including government departments. There will be a talk by the Postal Service Department.
