Saya berpeluang mengikuti Bengkel Penyelidikan Sastera yang di adakan di Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Brunei pada 25-27 Mei yang lalu. Bengkel selama tiga hari itu telah banyak memberi pengalaman baru pada saya, kerana selama ini saya memang tidak pernah mempelajari bagaimana cara menjalankan satu-satu penyelidikan sastera dengan lebih bersistematik. Terutama dari segi methodology dan merangka proposal (kertas cadangan penyelidikan) yang meyakinkan. Waktu itu, saya telah dipilih untuk mengetuai Kumpulan Dua bagi empat orang lagi peserta bengkel yang lainnya (lihat gambar) dan diarahkan untuk mengkaji bidang Sejarah Sastera. Setelah berbincang, kami telah bersependapat untuk memilih judul kajian, iaitu ‘Sastera Moden Brunei : Novel (1990-2000)’. Sebagai satu bidang yang belum pernah disentuh oleh mana-mana pengkaji sebelum ini saya fikir judul proposal yang kami pilih ini cukup munasabah. Dan kami memang telah berusaha untuk mencapai sesuatu yang terbaik untuk bengkel itu dan seterusnya

THE key to conducting systematic literary researches and increasing the quantity of written masterpieces lies in the foundation and basic knowledge on researching itself, said a senior Language and Literature Bureau official yesterday. Both readers and writers need to understand the language model, format of the literature and the content of the work requires the preparation of certain criteria in order for it to be prepared, said Hjh Aminah Hj Momin, director of Language and Literature Bureau. Ketika pertama kali membaca sajak yang saya hasilkan dengan judul ' Nostalgia ' yang terkandung dalam antologi sajak Cermin Diri terbitan Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan, timbul rasa kecewa di hati ini. Ia adalah disebabkan oleh salah satu perkataan atau diksi yang tiba-tiba sahaja berubah menjadi ' belakangnya '. Padahal diksi asal yang saya gunakan ialah ' belanganya '. Ini secara tidak langsung telah mengubah makna atau maksud pada rangkap sajak tersebut. Hanya baru-baru ini dengan tidak disangka-sangka salah seorang pegawai yang bertanggungjawab untuk penerbitan edisi terbaharu antologi sajak ini telah menghubungi saya. Ya, ia sudah tentulah mengenai kesilapan yang telah berlaku pada sajak saya itu (dan mungkin juga sajak-sajak penulis yang lainnya).
