ASEAN book publishers hold AGM in Singapore.

The Director of Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Dr Mataim Bakar, who is also the Vice-President of Asean Book Publishers Association (ABPA) and the chairman of Brunei Book Publishers National Council (JKKPBNBD), attended the 4th annual general meeting (AGM) of ABPA in Singapore recently. He was accompanied by an officer from DBP, Dyg Hjh Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi, who is also the secretary of JKKPBNBD. The two officers attended the opening ceremony of the 23rd World Book Fair 2008 at Suntec; the Singapore Book Industry Seminar entitled "From Book to Bestseller: Writing, Publishing and Marketing your Work"; and the launching of the ABPA website. The 23rd World Book Fair 2008 was officially opened by Singapore's Minister of Information, Communications and Arts, Dr Lee Boon Yang, who spoke highly on the future of the book publishing industry. Sangat jarang lagi aku bertemu dengan penulis yang menghasilkan kumpulan cerpen yang berjudul Tai dan Cerita-Cerita Lain ini, baik ketika perkumpulan atau majlis sastera yang diadakan oleh Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, atau secara kebetulan terserempak di pusat-pusat membeli belah. Begitu juga dengan karyanya, aku sudah tidak berpeluang lagi membaca karya-karya terbaharu darinya terbit di ruangan cerpen Majalah Bahana . Ya, mungkin benar dengan apa yang ia perkatakan yang menurutnya untuk sementara ini ia sedang berehat dari menulis atau berkarya. Three Plays Performed To Promote Literature.

Three theatre plays from the "Pantaran Sastera" Project were performed at the Balai Sarmayuda, Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas on 3 June 2008. Present as the guest of honour was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. In his welcoming speech, Dr Mataim bin Bakar, Director of the Language and Literature Bureau, said that the project is a part of the year-long activities organised by the bureau to expose literature to the general public while providing an avenue where literature experts can come together to share their experiences and also cultivate interest in the subject. He said that the project is a long term endeavour and that there are plans to showcase Brunei talents in the literature field not only in the four districts but in neighbouring Malaysian areas like Lawas, Limbang and Miri. Sekali lagi kita dapat membaca sebuah novel yang berjudul Sidang Burung buah tangan Muslim Burmat, Tokoh Sastera Brunei Darussalam. Dua buah novel beliau yang terakhir yang telah kita miliki masing-masing berjudul Makna Sebenar Sebuah Ladang dan Maka yang sarat tersirat dengan erti dan perlambangan. Sebelum ini dalam sebuah novelnya penulis Muslim Burmat, menyajikan sebuah ceritera tentang matinya seekor burung yang tercantik di pukat seorang pemikat burung, tetapi dalam novel yang terbaru ini, ia mengisahkan para burung mengadakan satu persidangan terbesar membincangkan karenah manusia yang dianggap menzalimi kaum mereka itu. Borneo And The Homeland Of The Malays: Four Essays.

On 10—11 April 2000, the Institute of the Malay World and Civilization at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, with the cooperation of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, convened an international colloquium, Borneo as the Homeland of Malay: The Implications for Research. The principal invited speakers were internationally well-known professors in comparative Austronesian linguistics and Austronesian archaeology. Other invited participants represented a broad diversity of academic disciplines, including economics, history, linguistics, oral literature, sociology, anthropology and geography. This book, Borneo and the Homeland of the Malays: Four Essays, presents an introductory essay by Professor James T. Collins on the idea of language homelands, with particular reference to the Austronesian family of languages. There follow the three principal papers presented at this foundation colloquium in 2000.
