UBD Undergrad Scores a First with Poems Published.

UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) student Ali Termizzi Hj Ramlli made history by becoming the first Bruneian undergraduate to publish his poetry anthology during his studies. Speaking to The Brunei Times yesterday, this fourth year student taking Bachelor of Arts in Education was informed of this by his lecturers at UBD. The book which was officially launched by UBD former Vice-Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman in conjunction with UBD "Info Day" April this year. The event was celebrated at a blessing and thanksgiving ceremony held at Ali Termizzi's residence last night. The ceremony, he said was actually held to launch and to introduce his anthology Sajak "Inilah Aku" to Kg Mulaut residents after it was launched at UBD recently. At present his book is available at 10 foreign universities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and UBD and at 35 local bookstores in the country. Asterawani, DBP officers at Labuan literature gathering.

Thirty-three members of Brunei Darussalam Literary Writers Association (Asterawani) and two officers from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports attended a three-day literature gathering in Labuan, aimed at seeking a platform for greater and wider cooperation. Entitled "Dialog Teluk", the event was also attended by literature activists from Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Kuala Limpur. On hand to officiate the opening of the gathering yesterday was Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Haji Yusuf Haji Mahal. Ten working papers were presented by literary writers of Asterawani, Labuan, Limbang, Sabah, Miri and the Union of National Writers of Malaysia (Gapena) of Kuala Lumpur, including a keynote address by Professor Dr Datuk Zainal Kling. Brunei presenters were Asterawani Secretary and head of delegation Haji Jawawi Haji Ahmad and Asterawani committee member Mohd Zefri Ariff. Local literary figures at poetry festival in Miri.

Two local poets are currently participating in a poetry festival at Niah National Park in Miri an the effort to create awareness on the richness of the natural beauty, flora and fauna and the need to safeguard them for future generation. Organised by the Department of National Heritage, Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage in Malaysia; Miri Resident Office and Sarawak Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism from Nov 8 to 11.  The two Bruneians - Nurfik and ZAB - have joined other international poets such as Supardi of Indonesia, Naowarat Phongphaibun of Thailand, Djamal Tukimin of Singapore, V I Braginskiy of Russia and Cai Jiwcheng of China.
